The government continues to promote the use of locally produced reusable bags to assist the local industries.

Star Printery Limited today launched its paper products, in line with the government’s initiative to completely ban plastic bags, straws, cups, and styrofoam takeaway boxes by 2020.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says if they had known that Star Printery would bring the substitute they would have put in the ban much sooner.

“Because as you can see they are already making products here. They are making paper made products that have covering and ensures food does not stick on it. They also have paper-based cups and straws so all of this is available in the market.”

Sayed-Khaiyum has commended Star Printery for branding everything as Fijian made.

He adds with this latest technology which is available through Star Printery they can also look at the export market.
